Why the login feels confusing at first
Preply is technically two products on one platform: a student account and a tutor account. They share the same login screen, but they live in different dashboards, and the platform decides where to send you based on which one you opened first. Most "I can't log in" tickets we see in support forums are not actually login failures — they're cases where someone created a student account, then signed up as a tutor using a different email, and is now confused that their booked lessons "disappeared." So the very first piece of advice is this: find the email confirmation in your inbox, because that is the source of truth for which account you actually own.
Preply does not currently support merging two accounts. If you have a duplicate, you'll need to pick one and delete the other from Settings → Account → Delete account. We'll come back to that in the troubleshooting section.
Logging in on the website
The web flow is the same on a laptop and on a mobile browser, although the buttons are stacked differently. Open preply.com in any modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge — Preply officially supports versions from the last two years), and click the Log in button in the upper-right corner. You'll be offered four routes:
- Email + password — the classic one. Whatever email you used at signup, plus the password you set.
- Continue with Google — uses Google's OAuth flow. If your Google account email matches your Preply account email, you're in instantly.
- Continue with Facebook — same idea, with Facebook's OAuth.
- Continue with Apple — works on any device, not just Macs/iPhones; you'll get an Apple ID prompt.
After authentication, Preply lands you on the Find a tutor dashboard if you're a student, or on the Tutor dashboard if your account is a tutor account. There is no separate URL for either — it's the same login.
Tip: Bookmark preply.com, not the login URL. The login URL changes occasionally during A/B tests and your bookmark can break.
Resetting a forgotten password
On the login screen, click Forgot your password? — Preply sends a reset link to the email on file. The link is valid for one hour. If it doesn't arrive within 5 minutes:
- Check your spam folder (the sender is
no-reply@preply.com). - Make sure you typed the same email you used at signup — not a similar one.
- If your account is OAuth-only (you signed up via Google/Facebook/Apple), the reset email will never come because there is no Preply password to reset; you must log in via the same social provider.
Logging in inside the iOS / Android app
The Preply app is available on the App Store and Google Play; we cover installation in detail in the app download guide. Once installed, the login flow mirrors the web: tap Log in, choose email or a social provider. The app stays logged in by default — you don't need to enter your password every time. If you switch phones, you'll log in again on the new device.
One quirk we've seen often: if your phone clock is wrong by more than a few minutes, OAuth tokens fail. Always make sure your phone has automatic time set.
Login with Google, Facebook, Apple — quirks to know
Single sign-on is the fastest route, but it has trade-offs:
- Account linked to a single email. If you sign up with Google, that Gmail address is your Preply account. Switching emails later is not straightforward.
- You don't have a Preply password. Some students panic when "Forgot password" doesn't work — it shouldn't, you authenticate via Google.
- Sign in with Apple may hide your email. Apple's "Hide my email" relay generates a random address. Preply respects this, but if you ever lose access to your Apple ID, your account becomes unrecoverable.
Two-factor authentication and security tips
At the time of writing, Preply does not offer user-configurable 2FA on the student side, although the company has rolled out optional 2FA for tutors handling payouts. If you handle bookings and payments through Preply, we strongly recommend:
- Use a unique, strong password — at least 14 characters, not reused on any other site.
- Enable 2FA on the email account you used to register with Preply. If your inbox is safe, your Preply account is safe even without native 2FA.
- Log out of shared computers — Preply sessions are persistent and someone with your laptop can book lessons on your account.
- Don't share your account with friends or kids — it violates the Terms of Use and you'd lose support coverage in case of a refund dispute.
When the login doesn't work — 9 fixes that resolve 95% of cases
- Wrong email or typo — the most common cause. Try the variants you commonly use; check confirmation emails in your inbox to find which one Preply has.
- Password manager autofills the wrong entry — clear it and type the password manually.
- Caps lock on — sounds silly, but accounts for ~10% of resets.
- Account is OAuth-only — use Google/Facebook/Apple, not email.
- Browser cache or stale cookies — try an Incognito/Private window first; if that works, clear cookies for preply.com.
- Adblocker or anti-tracking extension — uBlock, Brave Shields and Privacy Badger occasionally block the OAuth callback. Temporarily disable for preply.com.
- Wrong region — Preply serves the same site globally, but corporate firewalls or VPNs in some countries throttle the connection. Try without the VPN once.
- Email reset link expired — they expire in 60 minutes. Request a fresh one.
- Account suspended or banned — rare, but happens after suspected payment fraud. Contact support at
support@preply.comwith your registration email.
Switching between a student and a tutor profile
If you teach and learn (a common setup for polyglots), Preply allows you to keep one account that switches contexts. After login, click your avatar in the top-right and pick Switch to Tutor mode or Switch to Student mode. The URL changes (/tutor vs /profile) but you stay authenticated. Lesson history is kept separate.

FAQ
Why is Preply asking me to log in again every time?
Either your browser is clearing cookies on close (check privacy settings), or you signed in on a different browser/device. Preply keeps you logged in for ~30 days of inactivity.
Can I change the email associated with my Preply account?
Yes — go to Settings → Personal info → Email and confirm the change from your old inbox. If you signed up with Google/Facebook/Apple, the email is locked to that provider.
Will I lose lesson history if I delete my account and create a new one?
Yes — completely. Lesson logs, vocabulary lists and reviews are tied to the original account.
Is there a Preply login URL for organizations or Preply Business?
Preply Business uses the same login at preply.com; an organization admin invites employees by email, and they log in normally. Single sign-on (SSO/SAML) for enterprise is available on the Business plan upon request.
Help — Preply says my email exists but my password doesn't work.
Almost always an OAuth account. Try "Continue with Google/Facebook/Apple" using that same email instead.
